GIMP2 basics Preferences

New Image

This set of preferences determine how TheGIMP presents the new image dialog. These different options can be changed individually through that dialog; the preferences change only the default behavior of File -->New Image dialog.

It is easy to see how the New Image preferences match the New Image Dialog. Especially after to expand the dialog to see the advanced options.

If you do not like the New Image that TheGIMP makes for you, it is in this preference that it is changed.

Not a lot of time is going to be spent demonstrating what the different options in this dialog do. If you came from a different application, it is easy for me to assume you know what to look for in these preferences. If you are new to making images on your computer, exploring these options should be useful to you. Best to explore it using the New Image Dialog and set the preferences once you know what you would like.

The default comment is particularly nice. I had the opportunity to try Photoshop7, I could not find a way to set your own comment into the image. This comment section is built into some image file formats (jpeg and png, to name two) and TheGIMP has always been nice about the ability to set a custom comment into your new images.
