Once you have set up your Tabs and Docks, configured your Toolbox and tweaked the Preferences you can further refine how gimp works on your desktop by configuring your docks, one dock at a time, using the menu button that can be found on

Anatomy of a Dock

Window Manager Title
The Window Manager gets this information from GIMP. Not a GTK thing.
Dialog Title
GTK gets this from TheGIMP. It can be configured to display the active image as well as a radio menu of active images.
Dialog Selection Title
Found in the Palette Dialogs this displays the name of the item selected.
The star of this page, depressing this button displays a menu of many options, style choices being some of those options.
Close Tab Button
Close the Tab with this button. The Window Manager gives you a button like this.
Dialog Area
This is where the gimp dialog or palette will be.
Dialog Buttons
Used by the dialog for one button access to making the dialog do its job.
