The most disturbing thing about the internet is that you never know who your audience is, not really. It can be Mr. Walrus' third grade class or it might be your friends, looking for new things to make fun of you for taking the time to once again explain. Many times, it is someone claiming to be a professional who does not know simple things about their profession. With any luck, these tutorials will be most useful for people who were like me, interested and curious about how to make graphic art and play with photographs on their gnu/linux computer like I was a few years ago.
The page on transparency for instance; it might be best to skip the writing and look only at the screenshots. This is here because many times the very first thing that people want to do is to erase something on an image or save with transparency. Background removal is another artform. There are many ways to remove a background with TheGIMP and for whatever reason it is a common question. More detailed should be the sections here about making gimp (GUI) work the way you want and maybe some ways that you hadn't thought of. Preferences is an amateur (me) stepping through the different options and contains information as varied as "the files that make my tablet work" and "how to make the gimp2 image window look more like gimp-1.2 image window". |
