random palette images

squares-default

It all started with a half finished script that Joao S. O. Bueno Calligaris wrote called squarificate. The script drew squares of random size randomly on your image.

I violated everything I say about using TheGIMP correctly and altered the original script to work with selections instead of layers. It really depends on the task and it is best to use the simplest method. This script makes a selection and fills it. If you need to make complicated edges or to do something complicated with your selection, it is best to take a layers approach. Also, if you have been using gimp or writing things for it, I do not need to tell you this. There is your spoon-full of defensivness today!

I got help from Seth Burgess, both from working with him on the gimp-perl scripts de-deprecation for gimp-2.2 and also for his intelligent suggestions on how to fix problems that making random selections can make. Manish Singh found the much needed PF_PALETTE thingie which allows you to pick a different palette while running the script.

Different palettes with different backgrounds. Due to a poor design in my script, you will be expected to handle the background yourself -- however, the script leaves the background unaltered and you can do whatever you want to it yourself. In this way, the script is not designed for those who need help understanding how to make the background match their view of how it should look. Some previous experience might be necessary.

If you would like to use this script, simply download it and use the gimptool to install it into your python enabled gimp. Instructions found elsewhere on this web site.
