This is a spoiler, somewhat. The first few frames you see are Prince Charming riding a horse. My thought was that there is a chance that soon, I might not be able to tell the difference between rendered 3D and perfect people with perfect skin and such -- if this hasn't happened already. Then they panned out from the original framing and it was a fake fake horse with a fake fake background. Touchè render farms.
Throughout the course of this movie, I considered that time long ago (1986) when I was playing Battle Chess on my friends IBM-AT. The graphics were so beautiful that I worked to set up situations in which the pieces would lose so that I could see their beautiful and dramatic dying pieces scenes.
While I have in life often wondered what that did to any chess playing skills that I might have had once, while watching this movie, I was wondering if the same "technique" was being used to make a movie "on the fly".
The story was about that well written. Although, maybe I lost some key narrative parts because I did not see Shrek 2.
What was more interesting were two trailers for upcoming movies. The Transformer movie and the Bee movie. The previews made them both look really good. The beautiful orange letters that were the logo for the bee movie was the point in my evening when I teared up for the beauty of digitally projected pixels. Seriously and sniffly...
I saw a trailer with Seinfeld dressed in a Bee costume. This trailer was perhaps not as funny but much much more promising of more than a few minutes of entertainment.
