Leon

1978

Albert Guibara

This original photograph of this sculpture was not so good. Too dark, too blue and too busy.

Levels Tool

Almost every photograph I have seen from a digital source (mostly my camera) needs a little values tweaking with TheGIMP's Levels Tool. This can be done quite well almost automatically as described in the Untitled#175 section on most photographs. Not this one, however.

the usual fix

This time the usual fix is not good enough. The material of the sculpture is metalic and was shimmering in reds and greens. For whatever reason, this photo captured too much blue and it needs more than the usual amount of fixing.

channel adjusting

At the top of the Levels dialog is a menu in which you can choose to work individually on the different color channels.

Background Removal

I knew that with just a little work with masks and the gradient editor, I could easily change this photograph to have a prettier sky and foliage that is not so tropical looking.
