Exemplification Layer (or Dramatic Layer Effect)

a first success

I had an early success using some hints and rumors I had heard from those days long ago in which I played with lense filters and black and white film and my slr camera making a digital color image look like an old black and white processed dramatic photo print.

The problem with this is that I would like to script it and you probably cannot call it a 'layer effect' if you have to manually adjust each image.

a different photograph

For this different image, I got from the original on the left to the exemplificated version on the right by rotating, reducing it to its red and value components and using a multiplied and equalized layer of its red to filter the view its value.

Other than the rotation, everything that was done to this image was automatic.
