I exchanged a little personal email with the GIMPTalk Moderator and on the gimp-user mail list and contributor to brickfilms wiki who is only known as saulgoode.
Saul and I had both seen Sir Graves Ghastly on a local Detroit television station.
By the time I had decided to use those instructions on an image of Einstein I really wasn't thinking about having seen saulgoodes avitar. I really was thinking about an image for this gripe which was going to be a companion piece to this suggestion.

A Masked Color Difference Layer
I was sorry there were no color images available although working with the grayscaled image was informative enough.
The layers dialog should show everything that I did.
