In Michigan, in the summer of 2002, lightening hit a dead tree behind the house I was living in. I remember being glad that neither the lightening nor the tree hit the house and also that the internet was never interrupted. In California, in 2004, a barely audible trickle of rain would knock the internet out and send the frightened masses into their homes to wait it out.
In California, on September 21, 2007, it sounded like God might be bowling in Oregon. Two claps of thunder -- the second one, I saw (perhaps) a little flash of lightening but got bored counting the seconds in between (to see how far the storm was away). Several hours later, it rained (at least the Californians call this rain, in Michigan, it could be disputed as being just a heavy dew).
